May was my month to be a quilter for the FAITH circle of do. Good Stitches. I chose to create quilt for a sweet family in our church that just seems to give, give, and give. They recently had a set of beautiful twin boys, and are moving near family now that the husband has finished school. Since most everything they own needs to be for two (how cute are double strollers?), I thought it'd be cute to have A Quilt For Two. :)

A Quilt For Two |
I asked each of my bee members to prepare me four string blocks, two in an aqua-yellow-grey-white colorway, and two in an aqua-orange-gray-white colorway.
|
Each baby gets their own side. :) |
I also asked them to please include scraps of non-traditional quilting fabrics that have an interesting texture for the babies to explore. I love the way this came out - I received blocks with scraps of fleece, minky, satin, linen, corduroy, and even tiny pom-poms!
|
See the fleece? |
All in all I used 32 of the string blocks on the front, and framed it all in Kona Ash.
This left me two extra string blocks, and one special giant block from Rachel at
Stitched in Color. I put these together with a little herringbone, Kona Coal, and Kona Ash into a back I love just as much as the front!
I decided on straight line quilting with 1.5" between each line. I wanted an all over pattern so it would work with the front and back designs, and 1.5" gave it a nice texture without getting too stiff.
I finished it off with binding in Kona Coal. I really love the Ash and Coal pairing.

Gratuitous rolled quilt shot. ;) |
Of course, I *have* to thank the wonderful ladies in the FAITH circle of do. Good Stitches. You all did a wonderful job! Thank you ladies!
The quilt was given to its new owners last Sunday, which will be their last out here. We'll miss you guys!

TOO Cute Tuesday.
This is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love how you put it together. It's perfect for twins!!
ReplyDeleteDes
total cuteness!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo way!! That's really cool. I love that you put both colors on one quilt for the babies. And the back is AWESOME!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique and clever idea! I love this. Such a great job!
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilts!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It came together so nicely; similar yet not the same. Like twins.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful, Kelsey! I love how it turned out, especially the separate sections on the front!
ReplyDeleteSo nice! Love the front AND back!
ReplyDeleteI watched Kelsey present the quilt and they were shocked. Way to go girls! Beautiful job.
ReplyDeleteI saw your quilt on Modern Day Quilts. It's so beautiful! I'm inspired to make a string quilt out of my scraps!
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful, Kelsey!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. And you are right I don't know which if I love the front or the back more.
ReplyDeleteLove your reversible quilt! That is one of my favorite things to do! I love both sides.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. Love the colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mom. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! ^_^

Thanks! I just hope they don't outgrow their "sides" to fast. :)
ReplyDeleteKelsey
Thanks JoJo. :)
ReplyDeleteKelsey
Thanks Melissa, I'm glad you like it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm rather fond of the back myself! ;)
Kelsey
Thanks so much! I just knew I had to do it once the idea struck. :)
ReplyDeleteKelsey
Especially like the fraternal twins it was destined for. :) (At least, I
ReplyDeleteassume they are fraternal by how different they look!)
Kelsey
Thanks Rachel! That back would never have been so awesome if it weren't for
ReplyDeleteyour piece. Your block was the whole starting point and I just built around
it! Lots of people like the back more than the front teehee.
Kelsey
Thanks Crystal! ^_^
ReplyDeleteKelsey
Thanks Arita. I think the more I look at them, the more I like the back the
ReplyDeletebest! lol
Kelsey
Thanks! It didn't really start out with that intention, but just kind of
ReplyDeleteevolved into awesomeness. :D
Kelsey
Thanks so much! I really am in love with string quilts - I think it really
ReplyDeletelets the colors play together well and it's so fun finding little surprises
in the quilt as you look at each little piece. :)

The grey really makes this quilt. I had been considering grey for my next scrap quilt and you may have settled the decision. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the way gray seems to make almost any color really pop, and adds a
ReplyDeletelayer of sophistication.
I'd love to see your quilt when you are finished!
<3 Kelsey
This is beautiful, I love the bright colors against the grey. And 2 quilts in one, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about the subject - but sure looks good - i like the round/square patterns of the back. I should check up quilting on wikipedia or something, as I still can't grasp the full idea behind those - my world is only made of mostly functional I guess comforters and (baby) blankets. Now, if I ever were involved in a quilt project, my geeky instinct would be to go for the never ending one, growing up with the family :-) when kids go away, they can take a chunk of it, and will continue the tradition extending the chunk with their own.... During family reunions, everybody would have to bring theirs to build a mega multi-layer quilt.... But I bet it's been done before - it's an old tradition after all ;
ReplyDelete...(probably went a bit too crazy with my soda and coffee intake today.:0)
Beautiful, I love the grey. What a lovely job!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteKelsey
I just love this quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks! ^_^
